Overview
After leaving Lava Tower, trekkers ascend toward Arrow Glacier Camp along rugged paths, surrounded by towering rock formations and open plains. The terrain becomes increasingly barren, a stark contrast to the lower, lush landscapes of Mount Kilimanjaro. As they near the camp, the rocky terrain is often dotted with snow patches, especially during the colder months, with dramatic views of the Western Breach looming above.
Upon arrival, Arrow Glacier Camp appears as a rugged, high-altitude outpost set at approximately 4,900 meters (16,076 feet). It is an exposed, rocky area, with minimal vegetation, offering climbers a close-up view of the glacier remnants on Kilimanjaro’s slopes. If the weather cooperates, climbers have the opportunity for acclimatization hikes near the glacier, marveling at the ancient ice fields and jagged rock faces. The high altitude and crisp mountain air serve as a reminder of the challenges and rewards that lie ahead on the final approach to the summit.
Arrow Glacier Camp is one of the last high-altitude camps before reaching the Western Breach. Due to its challenging terrain and limited amenities, it is often considered a “no-frills” camp.
