Barafu Camp

Barafu Camp

Overview

As the sun rises at Karanga Camp, climbers are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys, with the early morning light casting a golden glow on the rugged terrain. This camp, the last water point before the summit, serves as a perfect spot for climbers to refuel and hydrate before continuing their journey. From Karanga Camp, the trail ascends steadily toward Barafu Camp, winding through rocky landscapes and offering glimpses of the majestic glaciers that adorn Kilimanjaro’s slopes. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, situated at 4,640 meters, climbers find themselves at a crucial base for preparing for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the mountain. Barafu means "ice," aptly reflecting the camp's proximity to the icy glaciers. The camp provides stunning views of the surrounding glaciers and valleys, creating an awe-inspiring backdrop as climbers rest and gather their strength for the challenge that lies ahead.
