Overview
Climbers approaching Barranco Camp (3,950 meters) from the Shira, Lemosho, or Machame routes are in for a scenic treat after a day of trekking. After lunch and an acclimatization stop at Lava Tower Camp, a rocky outpost at 4,600 meters, they’ll descend through dramatic landscapes to the sheltered Barranco Valley. Barranco Camp offers breathtaking views of the jagged peaks of Kilimanjaro, especially stunning at sunset. Towering nearby is the imposing Barranco Wall, which they’ll tackle the next morning. The camp itself is surrounded by giant groundsels and unique flora, offering a unique, picturesque resting place with a blend of mountain scenery and vegetation at this high altitude.
