Overview
The journey from Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut on Mount Kilimanjaro takes climbers across the expansive Shira Plateau, one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in the world. As they hike, climbers are surrounded by vast open landscapes with hardy vegetation, ancient lava flows, and dramatic views of Kibo Peak towering above, its snow-capped summit glistening in the distance. Passing through Fisher Camp, the route becomes rockier and more rugged, adding to the sense of adventure.
Upon reaching Moir Hut Camp at around 4,200 meters, climbers settle in for the evening with a special acclimatization hike up Lent Hills. This nearby ridge provides panoramic views of the plateau and helps them adjust to the altitude. The day offers scenic beauty and physical challenge, preparing climbers for the ascent and immersing them in Kilimanjaro’s otherworldly landscapes.
